Comprehensive Protection: Life, LTD, and AD&D Insurance
Your family is your first ministry, and your staff is the heartbeat of your church. At Church Benefits Board, we believe that providing for their future is an act of stewardship, not just a business decision. As a nonprofit dedicated to those who serve, we offer comprehensive, employer-paid Life and Disability insurance designed to protect the livelihoods of ministry leaders and the peace of mind of their families. Whether you are a solo pastor or a large church staff, we provide the safety net you need to focus on your calling.
Below are the core components of our Group Life coverage:
Group Life Insurance
Group life insurance is available for all active employees working 20 hours or more per week, except for any person working on a temporary or seasonal basis.
You must be insured for your dependents to be covered. Dependents are:
- Your legal spouse who is not legally separated or divorced from you;
- Your unmarried financially dependent children birth to 26 years;
- A person may not have coverage as both an employee and dependent;
- Only one insured spouse may cover dependent children;
The benefit amount for Life and AD&D is 4 times earnings, rounded to the next higher $1,000, with a minimum of $10,000, subject to a maximum of $500,000. There is a spousal benefit of $10,000, and a benefit for child(ren): birth to age 26 years: $5,000.
Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance (AD&D)
Accidents don’t just happen to employees in dangerous jobs; they can happen to anyone. It makes sense to offer employees protection with AD&D coverage.
The benefit amount for Life and AD&D is 4 times earnings, rounded to the next higher $1,000, with a minimum of $10,000, subject to a maximum of $500,000. For accidental loss, benefits will be paid based on a schedule of coverage for the type of loss.
Long-Term Disability Insurance (LTD)
Disability income protection insurance provides a benefit for long-term disability resulting from a covered injury or sickness. Benefits begin at the end of the elimination period and continue while you are disabled up to the maximum benefit duration.
Long-term disability insurance is available for all active employees working 20 hours or more per week, except for any person working on a temporary or seasonal basis.
The benefit amount is equal to 60% of your monthly covered earnings, from a minimum of $100, to a maximum benefit of $5,000 per month.
I never imagined that I would hear the words, “You have early onset Parkinson’s Disease.” I had always been athletic and very active. Even after my initial diagnosis I did whatever I wanted for a number of years with the help of medications… until the meds stopped working so much.
Finally, after nearly 30 years of serving as senior pastor of two CBF congregations, I had to face the reality that I could no longer fulfill my duties as a pastor. So, in the fall of 2024, I opted to have Deep Brain Stimulation surgery in hopes of improving my symptoms. But that also meant I would have to retire early along with a major loss of income to support my family.
Enter the Church Benefits Board. I picked up the phone and called Rob Fox. He and Jenny Clore walked me step by step through the process of filing for long term disability insurance through the CBB.
LTD is something I never thought I would need, but I am beyond grateful for the CBB and staff who were there to guide and spiritually support me through a very difficult time.
I still cling to the stubborn hope that I may be of some use to the kingdom of God coming through his people known as the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, and I have no idea what is next. But that’s just another reason why you and I both need to be covered by the CBB!
