A First Call Grant assists those in the first-call stage of ministry with a $500 grant to start a 403(b)(9) retirement account with Church Benefits Board (CBB). After a church has enrolled their first-call minister in the CBB retirement plan as a participant, CBB will add an initial $500 employer contribution from the Financial Wellness Initiative grant to the participant’s retirement account as a full-time, first-call minister. The church organist plays for the weekly Sunday morning worship service, seasonal services, and presentations, as well as Sanctuary Choir rehearsals on Wednesday evenings. Worship services typically feature hymn singing, choral calls to worship and anthems, solos duets or small vocal ensembles, as well as preludes, offertories and postludes on organ or piano.
The organ is a 3-manual, 31-rank Schantz, Op. 1964, installed in 1990. The piano is a DH Baldwin C172 (5’8”) grand. The sanctuary, completed in 1920 and renovated several times since, seats just over 200 people and has excellent acoustics for music.

God has called University Baptist Church (UBC) to minister to the University of Virginia Community and to the residents of the Greater Charlottesville-Albemarle Community, serving as agents of Christ’s love and justice for those in need and offering a vital family of faith. This Associate Minister will be responsible for leading the music ministries of UBC. This will be a full-time position and requires an engaged/enthusiastic “people person” with an innovative/creative spirit. UBC has long had a reputation for a strong music ministry with an emphasis on choral music. In addition to the sanctuary choir the church has had a choir for college students for over 50 years. The new minister will build on this established foundation and expand the music ministry. The congregation and staff are committed to making music a signature program of the church. Based on the gifts of the candidate, this person will also be responsible for another area of ministry. UBC is open to discussing this secondary responsibility, which could include children, youth, or college students, for example.
