WHAT IS A PRE-APPROVED 403(b) PLAN?

A pre-approved plan is a plan document that the IRS has determined meets the requirements for a compliant plan document. It generally follows IRS model language.

Your church is able to enjoy the benefits of having an IRS Pre-approved Plan with CBF Church Benefits. Employers who have adopted a pre-approved plan have the assurance that, by operating the plan in accordance with its terms, they are also operating in accordance with the IRS requirements for a 403(b) plan. Moreover, if the employer is ever audited, they can present the auditor with the IRS letter of approval certifying their plan is compliant, which should alleviate the need for the auditor to review the plan document.

 

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO COMPLETE THE PARTICIPATING EMPLOYER AGREEMENT?

The pre-approved 403(b) has been adopted by CBF Church Benefits.  What remains is for the church or organization to execute the Participating Employer Election Form.  There is no additional cost to you.

The process for you is simple:

  1. Review the CBF Church Benefits pre-approved 403(b)(9) plan
  2. Complete and sign the Participating Employer Election Form.
  3. Be sure to maintain a copy in your church record.
